Custom rods offer maximum design flexibility…allowing engine builders to create a reciprocating assembly with features and dimensions not always found within our shelf-stock rod line. Arias Components will gather your crucial specifications either verbally or through our Custom Rod Form, then transfer that information to a Purchase Order for precision manufacturing by Carrillo. All orders are retained as proprietary customer info, giving you confidence these sensitive or specialized designs remain protected.

Although today’s shelf-stock connecting rod choices are extensive, they don’t always satisfy the requirements of every engine build. In those cases, rods custom-manufactured to your needs remain the best solution.

Forgings: Carrillo offers the most advanced, application specific steel, aluminum and titanium forgings available in our industry – produced here in the USA. Available configurations include H-Beam, A-Beam and Solid Beam designs. Custom rods can be produced for any practical center-to-center length up to 10” (254mm), 1.800” (45.72mm) blade width, 1.750” (44.45mm) end thickness and 4” (101.6mm) big end width (inquire for material availability).
Materials: The majority of Carrillo’s steel rods are manufactured of “Carrilloy”, a proprietary 4330M alloy (a hybrid version of 4330). Carrilloy offers the perfect combination of strength, durability, and resistance to fatigue. “C107” steel, 22% stronger than Carrilloy, allows thinner cross-section design for lighter weight. C107 is only available for custom applications. Titanium material rods offer significant weight reduction while maintaining superior strength and the ability to withstand the extreme conditions when compared to steel. For aluminum rods Carrillo’s lineup includes forged 7000 Series for most applications up to boosted methanol, then Carrillo’s proprietary CR509 alloy for most extreme builds, like 11,000 horsepower Top Fuel!
Rod Bolts: Over 60 years of superiority can also be traced to Carrillo’s exclusively designed and manufactured connecting rod bolts. Carrillo’s H-11 steel (WMC) and multiphase MP35N (CARR) alloys allow the perfect blend of bolt stretch and clamping retention. Available in various threads pitches, including metric. Additionally, there are a variety of head configurations and select sizes for improved rotating clearances.
3D Modeling: Every connecting rod, whether stocking or custom, is designed in Carrillo’s proprietary 3D drafting/engineering program. Parameters are imported from your order form and transformed into a solid model, complete with big & small end and total estimated gram weight. Highly advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) computer generated stress study addresses pre-manufacturing ultimate load capabilities. Any interference or design issue is engineered out of your custom rods. These solid model renderings are also available for your review.
Inspection: Every Carrillo rod is subject to a rigorous multi-step quality control routine. Post-deburring and ultra-sonic cleaning, your part will be inspected against the order form and shop jobcard, assuring you receive the correct rod set for the engine build intended.
